Rumors that Mass Effect 2 will be coming to the PlayStation 3 continue to bubble to the surface, most recently thanks to a listing for a PS3 version of the game on EA’s Russian website.
Notwithstanding the fact that the original Mass Effect is still only available on the PC and Xbox 360, rumors that a PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 is in the works just won’t go away. In July, a GameStop listing for the Dragon Age: Origins Collector’s Edition implied that a PS3 version of the game was on the way (although that was later corrected) while in August, BioWare co-honcho Dr. Ray Muzyka repeatedly refused to deny that a PS3 version would be released. In fact, his sly phrasing could be seen by the conspiratorially-minded (not me, of course) as a hint that the Sony console would in fact be getting the Mass Effect treatment.
The latest gasp of hope for the PlayStation team came thanks to EA’s Russian website (Google translated) which, according to Joystiq, indicated that a PS3 edition of the game was being made. Unfortunately, the site appears to have been changed since that report was made and the game is now listed as only coming out for the PC and Xbox 360.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, PlayStation fans, but once again it looks like the rumor that Mass Effect 2 will be coming to your platform of choice is just that: A rumor. There is another straw to clutch at, however, albeit a somewhat less-official-looking one: It remains “to be confirmed,” but Australian retailer Game also has a PS3 version listed. Dare to dream!
