Good news for all you sci-fi MMO fans: Earthrise is still alive and kicking, and it’s coming out soon.
It’s been a while since anything’s been heard about Earthrise, the post-apocalyptic MMO from Masthead Studios. It turns out the game is not only still in development, but it’s pretty close to completion, as the developer has named a definite release date.
The Bulgaria-based developer revealed that the game will be coming out (via digital distribution) on February 4, 2011:
“The Masthead team is thrilled for the fans who have been following Earthrise closely to now be able to play the game that they have been so eagerly awaiting,” said Atanas Atanasov, producer of Earthrise and director of Masthead Studios. “We have worked incredibly hard to make Earthrise the best sandbox MMORPG on the market, and we can’t wait for players to fully experience all of our hard work and become immersed in Enterra.”
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Earthrise, the game’s “a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi MMORPG set in the distant future.” Masthead is promising that the game will feature a sandbox-style game experience, with something for both casual and hardcore gamers. Exactly how players will pay for the game remains to be seen; last year, Atanasov hinted that a subscription-free model like that used in Guild Wars might be used, but the release date announcement doesn’t make mention of this.
