This cost about £250 to make, believe it or not.
There are things you’ll risk your life for, in the ZombiU post-apocalypse world, and toilet paper is definitely one of them. Ron Dee had better get his skates on, as all the shops are shut and the bampots are out on the streets; time to pick a weapon and get the job done. Just remember to pack everything you’ll need in that bug-out bag, Ron.
It’s amazing what you can do with £250. This Edinburgh fan film got its lurching undead start when three gamers got together to pay homage to the Wii U title they all loved. Pity the game didn’t do better; ZombiU was the standout Wii U launch title, but Ubisoft has confirmed that it didn’t do nearly well enough financially to be worth a sequel.
That’s due in no small part to the unpopularity of the Wii U console itself, which still hasn’t really dug its way out of the hole it buried itself in at launch. Nintendo’s hoping for a good Christmas, and maybe it will get one, but Ubisoft has already said it needs some evidence of sales success before doing more Wii U exclusives.
ZombiU was a great title, and it’s a pity we won’t be seeing more of it. At least we get something as good as this to be going on with. Incidentally, if you were wondering who the gouging wee fella is demanding three quid for essentials, that’s Greg McCraw, the director. He and his partner in crime Shaun Paul Johnston are hoping to break into the Edinburgh independent film scene. “Guys like Freddy Wong have seen success from their films on YouTube in the States but no one seems to be making it big here in the UK,” says Johnston. “We wanted to show people there is great talent here in Edinburgh and the in rest of Scotland.” The pair are working on their second film, but if you want to know more about the first, check out DeepFried35’s YouTube channel.
