Elden Ring just made its first appearance in a long time, and it looks glorious, with a gameplay trailer from Bandai Namco and FromSoftware debuted during Summer Game Fest providing our first substantial look at what’s to come since the game was first announced back in 2019. Oh, and Elden Ring got a release date of Jan. 21, 2022 for players on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S. (You will also be able to take advantage of a free upgrade from the last-gen version of the game to the current-gen version.) There’s death, hideous monsters, golden landscapes, and dark valleys in the video – what more could you want? See FromSoftware’s latest nightmare in the video below.
Elden Ring looks to bring the challenge and dark fantasy FromSoftware has made itself famous for throughout the last decade. What sets Elden Ring apart from the studio’s other titles, however, is its world and lore, which has been crafted by Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin. With a strong initial showing and Martin’s work backing it, fans have been understandably impatient when it comes to updates from FromSoftware.
A number of leaks that made their way to the internet in March made waiting even more difficult. Even with the low-quality footage in mind, Elden Ring still looked like a promising addition to the FromSoftware lineup. Thankfully, the wait to play Elden Ring is almost over with its release date set for January 2022.
In an update, Bandai Namco has provided an overview of Elden Ring:
The Golden Order has been broken. Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between. In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered. Marika’s offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.
And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring. And become the Elden Lord.
