The video game news keeps chugging along. Aside from learning that Rainbow Six Siege is headed to Xbox Game Pass this week, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War beta players have already encountered hackers, the PlayStation 5 fan will be optimized to perform better for individual games over time, and unskippable ads are driving people insane in NBA 2K21. Here’s the video game news you might’ve missed on Oct. 19, 2020.
P.T. May or May Not Be Playable on PlayStation 5
There is continued confusion over whether Hideo Kojima’s P.T. demo will be playable on PlayStation 5. GamesRadar reported based on direct discussion with Konami that P.T. will not be backwards compatible on PS5 — leaving it stranded on PlayStation 4. However, Gematsu states the game can still be accessed via a direct data transfer from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5. The game has not been on the PS Store since 2015, but players who have upgraded to a new PS4 are still able to transfer the game from the old system to the new one — which will presumably work the same from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5.
P.T. is a demo for the now canceled Silent Hills, a game that would have been a reboot of the Silent Hill series and a collaboration between Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro.
Seeing reports that P.T. isn't backward compatible with PS5, which is inaccurate. The statement from Konami is that "the content will not be available on the PS Store, so users won’t be able to re-download the content through the backwards compatibility feature to the PS5."

The PS5 Internal Fan Will Be Optimized Over Time with Updates
Recently, an interview between Sony VP of Mechanical Design Yasuhiro Ootori and 4Gamer (as translated by ResetEra user orzkare and relayed by Eurogamer) was published, where it was revealed that the PlayStation 5’s internal fan will be optimized via updates as time goes on. Ootori said that “various games will be released in the future, and data on the APU’s behavior in each game will be collected. We have a plan to optimize the fan control based on this data.” As you’ll recall, we recently got a look at the fan, thanks to a PlayStation 5 teardown video from Sony. We now know the fan’s operations will change over time.

Players Are Upset About Newly Added Unskippable Advertisements in NBA 2K21
Recently, NBA 2K21 added unskippable ads to the game’s loading screens, and fans aren’t happy about it. In the video below, courtesy of YouTube account Stevivor, you can see a lengthy ad for the Oculus Quest 2 — which cannot be skipped. A similar issue occurred in UFC 4, wherein ads were implemented, then removed due to public outcry. It’s unclear if publisher 2K will follow suit and remove the ads from NBA 2K21, but fans have been vocal about their disapproval for the practice — especially since the game is full price at $60.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta Players Have Already Encountered Numerous Cheaters
Despite only being in beta form, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players are already encountering cheaters. One of the biggest issues involves players using an “aimbot,” which automatically locks you onto enemy targets. Aimbots are more common on PC, so the community has discovered that disabling cross-platform play on PS4 will significantly reduce the chances of being paired with someone using this cheat. An example of an aimbot in action can be seen in this Reddit clip.
