As we near the end of yet another eventful week, let’s take a look at some of today’s biggest gaming stories. For starters, Bugsnax will be a PlayStation 5 launch title. Sony also revealed it will be removing PlayStation 3 and PS Vita games from the PlayStation webstore later this month, For Honor will get a free next-gen upgrade, and more. Here’s the video game news you might’ve missed on Oct. 8, 2020.
For Honor Is Getting a Free Next-Gen Upgrade
Yet another game is giving you the ability to upgrade to the next generation for free — this time Ubisoft’s action brawler, For Honor. Today, the developer put out a blog post stating that the upgraded version of For Honor will run at 60 FPS and include 4K resolution (1080p on Xbox Series S), improved shadows, and better draw distances — all for free if you own the game on current-generation hardware. The next-gen version of For Honor will be available sometime this December following the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S. You’ll be able to upgrade within the same family (PS4 > PS5 and Xbox One > Xbox Series X or S).

Worms Rumble Will Launch on PS4, PS5, and PC This December
Back in July, Worms Rumble was announced, and we finally know when we’ll be able to get our hands on it. Releasing for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on Dec. 1, Worms Rumble will pit you against other players in a variety of competitive modes. There will also be an open beta that runs from Nov. 6 through Nov. 8, free for all PS Plus subscribers. The full version will include crossplay support across PS4, PS5, and PC. Here’s the newest trailer!
72% of Next-Gen Preorders in the U.S. Are for PlayStation 5 with Disc Drive
According to research company VGM (as relayed by GamesIndustry.biz), 72% of preordered next-gen systems are PlayStation 5s with a disc drive in the United States, with another 10% getting the Digital Edition. Of all those surveyed, only 15% said they managed to preorder a next-generation console, which is not surprising considering the limited number of systems available through each retailer at the time. Many of those who chose to preorder a PS5 were enticed by the promise of exclusive games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and God of War: Ragnarok. Interestingly, of those surveyed, 63% said they were unaware that Microsoft had recently purchased Bethesda, while 42% of those interested in Xbox Series X or S were drawn in by Xbox Game Pass.

New Powerful Sniper Rifle in Call of Duty: Warzone Has Been Nerfed
Sad news for some Call of Duty: Warzone (and Modern Warfare) fans — the recently added SP-R 208 sniper rifle has gotten a significant nerf. The update is live across all platforms right now and lowers the ADS speed of the SP-R 208, along with bringing a significant reduction in bullet velocity with certain ammo types. Prior to the update, the weapon was widely regarded as overpowered — allowing you to quickly aim down sights to pull off easy one-hit kills to the chest and above. In fairness, the weapon absolutely needed to be patched, but admittedly, it was fun to use prior to today’s update. Other weapons like the SKS and AS VAL have also been updated.
Here’s a clip of us using the SP-R 208 sniper pre-patch:

PSN Webstore Removing PS Vita and PS3 Games With New Update
Sony has stirred up some controversy by announcing it will be launching a new PlayStation webstore that will remove the ability to purchase PlayStation 3 games, PS Vita games, apps, themes, and avatars. The new webstore will be available for browsers and mobile and will go live on Oct. 19 and 28 respectively. You will still be able to buy PS3 and Vita games via those respective consoles following the release of the new webstore, but that will be the only way to get your hands on digital games for those systems. Fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with this move, specifically in that the PS3 store on the system itself is sluggish and difficult to use. Unfortunately, this will be the only way to buy PS3 games, moving forward. Thankfully, the PS Vita digital storefront is much snappier.
PSN webstore is reportedly getting updated starting Oct 19th for web, Oct 28 for mobile. It will no longer allow users to buy PS3/PSP/Vita content as well as apps/themes/avatars. Youâll have to buy them from the device instead https://t.co/ooyybj8nZ8
