Let’s round out this busy week with some more exciting video game news. The biggest story of the day was that Sony finally confirmed how backwards compatibility will work on PlayStation 5. We also received word recently that Final Fantasy XVI‘s “basic development” is complete, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has gone gold, Marvel’s Avengers developers have addressed the game’s dwindling player base, and more. Here’s the video game news you might’ve missed on Oct. 9, 2020.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Has Gone Gold
As announced by Insomniac Games on Twitter today, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has gone gold, meaning core development is complete and the game is ready to be printed and distributed. It’s always exciting when a game “goes gold,” as it’s a major milestone in development and means there won’t be any delays. Spider-Man: Miles Morales will release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on Nov. 12, 2020, alongside the launch of PlayStation 5 itself.

Infinity Ward Working on Infinite Stim Glitch in Warzone
If you’ve played Call of Duty: Warzone recently, you might’ve encountered players using a nasty glitch — one that allows them to stay in the “deadly” gas by using an infinite supply of Stims. We won’t go into the details of how the glitch works, but suffice to say it has ruined the game for many players, as the exploit can be used to win the game with ease. But fortunately, Infinity Ward is currently working on a fix. “We have a fix that’s currently being tested which we’ll release as soon as we can,” the developer said on Twitter, though it’s unknown when it will go live.
We're aware of an issue where players are able to use infinite Tactical items in #Warzone. We have a fix that's currently being tested which we'll release as soon as we can. We'll provide another update when we have more information to share. Thank you for your patience.

Marvel’s Avengers’ Player Base Declining, Crystal Dynamics Confident Players Will Return
Following its release just over a month ago, Marvel’s Avengers‘ player base has dwindled, with fans citing the lack of endgame content as the reason for dropping off. However, in speaking with Kotaku, Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos said the team is “confident” players will return after new additions have been added — hopefully coming in the “weeks ahead.”
Amos said there will be “a totally new War Zone mission type called Tachyon Rifts, a new Outpost that’s a jumping off point for new story missions in the future, and AIM’s Cloning Lab, which requires a coordinated high-level group of four players to beat with new top-end loot rewards for finishing it.” The promise of new characters like Clint Barton and Kate Bishop is enticing as well, but is this enough to bring players back?

Ghost of Tsushima’s Next Update Will Allow You to Recruit (and Pet) Dogs
To coincide with multiplayer update Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, Sucker Punch Productions will also be adding arguably the most important feature of all — the ability to recruit and pet doggos around the world. This update will serve as the game’s version 1.1 and will go live on Oct. 16, featuring multiplayer and New Game+. Do keep in mind that dog recruitment is restricted to the New Game+ mode, so you’ll have to beat the game first if you want to pet and fight alongside the puppers. Sucker Punch also revealed that playing Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 will allow frame rates upward of 60 FPS and will include even faster load times.

Final Fantasy XVI’s Basic Development Is Reportedly Finished
Timely development cycles aren’t necessarily something Square Enix is known for, but that might change with Final Fantasy XVI. According to a recruitment page, as translated by Gematsu, Square Enix says, “We have already completed basic development and scenario production, and are continuing to create large-scale resources and build boss battles while expanding our various development tools.” The developer is still seeking staff to help with the game’s additional environments and cutscenes, though it’s unclear how much work needs to be done. Despite this news, we still wouldn’t expect Final Fantasy XVI to be ready until fall of 2021 at the earliest.
