Evil Genius 2: World Domination is a strategy and management-style satirical spy-fi lair builder developed by Rebellion and a direct sequel to the original Evil Genius from 2004. Over a decade has passed since a supervillain took over the world in the first game, but now, the Forces of Justice are trying to reclaim their virtuous reign and are causing chaos, providing a new wave of evil masterminds the opportunity to seek world domination.
Evil Genius 2 offers four playable geniuses each with their own personality, skills, and campaign. For my playthrough, I chose the gold-obsessed Maximilian. Should you prefer to forgo the objectives and simply craft the lair of your dreams with limited constraints, the game also offers a sandbox mode.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game. There are so many systems that take considerable time to learn and can feel incredibly overwhelming, but the slow chipping away at objectives-style gameplay seen here is satisfying and more-ish as you watch your villain achieve world domination. The other villains are all incredibly compelling as well and are enticing me to come back and find out how they each plan to become the most evil of geniuses.
Evil Genius 2: World Domination is available March 30 for $39.99 on Steam with a 10% preorder discount.
