Scott Lang is ready for his close-up

Ahead of its big trailer debut on Agent Carter and hot on the heels of its amusing first poster, Marvel’s Ant-Man has popped up as the cover boy for the latest Entertainment Weekly.

The cover shot, which appears to be a variation on the aforementioned minimalist teaser poster, deploys a magnifying glass to reveal a smirking Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. Of note, this constitutes fans’ first real look at Lang in the full Ant-Man suit (though he’s here depicted holding his helmet as opposed to wearing it.) In the comics, Ant-Man’s suit allows him to change size while retaining full strength, while the helmet lets him communicate with ants.

In the film, Lang is a reformed thief who takes up the mantle of Ant-Man – a superhero of the 60s and 70s whose abilities include changing size while retaining full strength and communicating with ants – from its creator Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to battle corporate-criminal Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll). Peyton Reed directs, taking over for a departed Edgar Wright. Marvel is billing the lighter, humor-focused actioner as a smaller-scale coda to its “Phase 2” run of features, rather than an official start to Phase 3.

Ant-Man will release on July 17.
