A new RPG is striving to create a full-fledged fairy tale, and it’s coming to XBLA, PSN, and PC.
Fairy tales rarely get any love from the videogame industry, probably because they’re not considered exciting enough to hold gamers’ attention. Some new screenshots have surfaced for an upcoming RPG, Faery: Legends of Avalon, that clearly wants to prove such stories are thrilling enough to get their own game. However, what’s really interesting is that this is a full-fledged, 3D RPG that is going to be released for XBLA, PSN, and PC.
The plot of the game has players take on the role of either an elf or a fairy who is trying to figure out why the world of Avalon is dying. From the sound of things, popular mythology and legends will be regular parts of the game’s story, including a World Tree and a Flying Dutchman ghost ship.
The screenshots look pretty impressive for an XBLA/PSN title, with a ton of different environments and &mdash apparently &mdash featuring flying sequences. Accordingly, the game will feature turn-based combat and, “the player will customize his avatar thanks to a unique system changing not only the whole look of the character in every detail, but also its spells and special abilities.”
Faery: Legends of Avalon is currently being worked on by Spiders, a French developer, and will be published by Focus Home Interactive. The game was apparently announced about a month ago, but has largely gone unnoticed until now, which is surprising since it sounds like a pretty epic RPG experience that is only going to be sold as a downloadable title. It certainly seems promising, but it’ll probably be a while before we can actually deliver a verdict, since a release date has yet to be announced.
