Some Fallout 4 PC modders are finding their work stolen and re-uploaded to the Xbox One mod database.
Fallout 4 mods have been live on the Xbox One version of the game for a week now, marking a first for the series. While no-one can argue that expanding mods to console gamers is a good thing, what isn’t a good thing is when unscrupulous types simple steal content from PC mods and re-upload it as their own work on the Xbox One version, which is something that is reportedly happening.
Modders are taking to reddit, complaining that people are simply using the Xbox One’s mod creation kit to re-create popular mods, without giving proper credit to the original creators. Some of these mod thieves are even trying to profit from the stolen works, by asking for donations.
Bethesda has responded to the controversy, urging modders report stolen content as a DMCA violation. “A number of you have reported instances of users uploading Mod content that allegedly does not belong to the Mod creator. We take these reports seriously and want to protect copyright holders and authors of the Mod content shared on Bethesda.net,” said the studio in an official statement.
So, keep an eye on the mods you download, and don’t donate money to a mod creator unless you are absolutely sure he actually created the mod!
