After fan outcry, a release delay, and plenty of waiting, Bethesda has uploaded a gameplay preview for Fallout 76’s Wastelanders update. The 16-minute gameplay video was edited to display the update’s highlights, showing that there will be more characters in the wasteland than players have been used to. If you’ve played Fallout 4 or even Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, NPCs will work in a similar fashion as they did in those games.
Fittingly, Wastelanders looks like it’s breathing some much-needed life back into Fallout 76. Players, regardless of their level, will be able to jump into a new story that focuses on two factions — settlers and raiders. Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic franchise has always had a colorful cast of characters, but this free update will also come with new weapons, enemies, locations, and more.
Coming with Wastelanders in Fallout 76 is a new reputation system that the publisher detailed in a blog post from the tail end of January. Though players will be given the option to choose sides when the update launches next month, faction NPCs will need to trust you before allowing you to join them.
Fallout 76’s Wastelanders update and Steam debut are both coming on April 7, just barely over a month away.
