Interplay is staggering back to its feet, with a flashy new website and a report that Chris Taylor has come back to work on a mysterious new MMOG known only as Project V13.
Of course, Project V13 may not be all that mysterious; by all reports it’s the Fallout MMOG Interplay lined itself up to do when it sold the Fallout IP to Bethesda. And given Taylor’s pedigree as the lead designer of Fallout, not to mention the fact he’s cited as joining “other original Fallout team members on staff at Interplay’s internal game studio,” it’s a fairly safe assumption to make.
To avoid any potential confusion, as CVG pointed out, this is the Fallout Chris Taylor, sometimes known as Christopher Taylor, and not the Gas Powered Games Chris Taylor, whose recent credits include Space Siege and Supreme Commander.
Against all odds, Interplay actually appears to be serious about making a comeback. It’s banking heavily on its past catalog: The redesigned website is built almost entirely around some of the company’s most famous past franchises, including Earthworm Jim, MDK and Freespace 2. But with the recent opening of new offices in Irvine, California, and the addition of a very credible name to its roster, Interplay seems determined to prove that it’s not just messing around.
