Things are about to get fast again. Or possibly furious. It’s unclear which F is being referred to in F9, the abbreviated title of the next Fast & Furious movie, Fast & Furious 9. It could also stand for family, something that’s been hammered home as important in every single film in the series — and also plays a very important role for the film’s new teaser for the full trailer releasing Friday (during the Super Bowl).

This is less of a traditional teaser and more of a snippet of character development. After the events of the last eight films, which everyone remembers every detail of, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) have settled down into parenthood and chopping wood. However, clearly something is going to happen as Letty gives Dom’s son her big cross necklace and then ominous music begins to play. Whatever that something is isn’t known yet as the plot of the film is still under wraps but it will definitely involve Charlize Theron’s Cipher and nearly every other person who has ever shown up in an F&F film, except Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham because they launched their own spin-off franchise with Hobbs & Shaw.
Whatever the story, we can expect some of the series’ best action once again as Justin Lin — the man who shepherded the franchise from flailing oddity to box office dominance — is back in the director’s chair. Also returning or showing up for the first time are Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren, Michael Rooker, and John Cena.
Fast & Furious 9 will open May 22. You can check out the film’s new poster below as well.
