Development for the next part of Final Fantasy VII Remake is in full swing, and the game’s director is hoping to launch it “as soon as possible.” Today’s development update comes from an interview in the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu, details of which were shared in advance by Game’sTalk.net and Ryokutya2089 and translated by @Aitaikimochi on Twitter. Game director Tetsuya Nomura spoke on the second part’s apparent progress, explaining that Square Enix intends to release the game in a timely manner without sacrificing quality:

We know that everyone wants the next installment quickly. We would also like to deliver it as soon as possible. Since we were also able to see the line of quality from the first installment, we hope to make the next installment even better in quality that can make for an even better experience. We would (like) to get it out as soon as possible, so please wait for it. I think we can clearly convey the direction when we officially announce the next installment.

Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase spoke with The Guardian earlier this month, saying that progress on the next installment would “temporarily drop below 100% efficiency” due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Famitsu interview also contains new information about the first installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake that launched. For example, Roche was originally supposed to have an extra battle in Chapter 14. (Co-director Motomu Toriyama says there is “a very high chance” he will return in the next installment.) Additionally, Square Enix could not go further with the hand massages in Wall Market without risking a higher age rating for the game.

Stay tuned for further updates on the next installment of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
