First DirectX 10 Game Relands on PCs

More than five months after the initial launch of DirectX 10 video hardware, a full game with DirectX 10 support is finally available on the market – sort of.

Relic Entertainment, the developers behind last year’s hit real-time strategy title, Company of Heroes, have released a DX 10 patch for the game, which initially launched with DX 9 features.

The patch touts several enhancements for DX 10 users – which means Vista owners, only – including softened particles, additional in-game objects, better anti-aliasing, shadow-casting point lights and more.

According to initial reports of the patch, however, users will need to update their drivers to fix performance-crippling bugs. Even with the fix applied, players have reported a drastic performance hit of up to 50 percent.
