Florence Pugh is quickly becoming the go-to girl of Hollywood. She’s obviously already got the Marvel Cinematic Universe check box filled as the next Black Widow, and now it appears she’s going to hop over to a Warner Bros. franchise. Deadline is reporting that the studio is, along with co-production studio Legendary, eyeing Florence Pugh to join the cast of Dune: Part Two. The actress is said to be in early negotiations to join the sequel, which was greenlit after the critical and theatrical success of the first movie.
None of this is officially confirmed by the studio, but Pugh is reportedly going to play Princess Irulan Corrino, the eldest daughter of Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV. If you saw the first film, you will know that Emperor Shaddam didn’t make an appearance, though he was alluded to and will, it seems, play a big role in the second movie along with his daughter. Then again, maybe you wouldn’t know that, since the film was still confusing in spite of how good it was.
If Florence Pugh joins Dune: Part Two, she will be meeting the returning cast members from the first film, which include Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, and Josh Brolin. Denis Villeneuve, who has had a major hand in the entire production of both films, is returning as director for the second as well.
Dune: Part One released day-and-date in theaters and on HBO Max as part of WB’s release strategy for the year of 2021. However, that practice has now ended, so Part Two will surely land solely in theaters, which given the first film’s successful pandemic-era box office $41 million makes sense. Don’t forget that the movie also picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
Dune: Part Two will go into production this fall with a release date set for October 20, 2023.
