Former K2 Network executives Jeff Lujan and Bob Drobish have announced the formation of a new online gaming company called True Games Interactive.

Based in Orange County, True Games Interactive will offer a new business model to independent developers and publishers of free-to-play microtransaction-based games by way of a proprietary platform, according to a GamesIndustry.biz report. The company is currently involved in several negotiations, and expects to release its first title in summer 2008.

“With the continued growth of the online game industry, True Games will be at the forefront with a new approach, a unique business model and a proprietary game platform,” said Drobish, formerly the senior vice president of operations at K2 and now the True Games chief operating officer. “We have been overwhelmed with the interest shown by potential development and publishing partners across the globe. We are thrilled with the speed of our progress and encouraged by the support, trust and interest in our new model.”

Lujan, the chief publishing officer at True Games who previously served as the K2 senior vice president for global publishing, added, “Given the demand for online gaming and the tremendous development talent available, we want to embrace this opportunity and bring content of value and quality to this growing segment on an international scale. We have built a strong team of talented industry veterans to lead True Games into the online gaming world and we are working with some of the industry’s most respected developers to deliver high-quality gaming experiences.”
