Polish artist Czarek Łuczyński has created a collection of Game of Thrones pixel art pieces that are almost as awesome as the series they’re based on.
HBO’s Game of Thrones and the Song of Ice and Fire book series that it’s based on are pretty danged awesome. As cool as Game of Thrones can be though, there are certain things about it that could certainly be improved. For instance, not once in the series’ history has anything ever been pixelated. And while we suppose that we can’t expect every TV show or book (especially not books) to have their own personal Community moment, a recent batch of custom made pixel art has left us pining for a Westeros built less on foundation of a betrayal and more on one of teeny tiny dots.
The pixel pieces come by way of Polish artist Czarek Łuczyński. A resident of Warsaw, he recently created and released six nifty GIFs transforming several fan favorites into sprites that could have easily populated the greatest 16-bit game never made. Luczynski’s GIFs include: Khal Drogo, Gregor Clegane, Oberyn Martell, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister and John Snow. Łuczyński originally posted these pieces to his account at Pixel Profile where more of his work can be seen. We’ve reached out to him to find out if we can learn more about the actual process of making them.
Just speaking personally though, these seriously have me wishing that George R.R. Martin’s medieval fantasy had been written and ascended to popularity even just the teeniest bit earlier. A Game of Thrones the novel was originally published back in 1996. Who knows, maybe if Martin had been even five years faster we could have gotten the epic 16-bit RPG that you all know you want deep down.
