A new website allows you to pay real money to meet “PlayDates” and play videogames with them over your PC or on Xbox Live.
In a daring attempt to make some cash off of lonely male gamers, a new website called Gamecrush.com will facilitate meetings between Players and PlayDates. You can play some of the more popular games over Xbox Live (GTA4, Halo) with your PlayDate or a more casual browser game like Battleship. For $8.25, you will get to play a game with a woman (or 2!) over Xbox Live and you can choose to interact with them using a webcam and a microphone. Xbox live games typically last 10 minutes while browser games are charged by the minute (8 min. minimum). PlayDates state whether they are in a “Dirty” mood or merely “Flirty” and you can search for profiles based on that designation in addition to what game they want to play and ratings. Gamecrush.com launches tomorrow, but there are already hundreds of PlayDate profiles you can browse through. Seriously, go look.
From the FAQ: “There are two types of GameCrush members – Players and PlayDates. Players can search PlayDate profiles and select which PlayDate they want to play. Players pay and PlayDates get paid for each game they play. After a game is completed we ask the Player to rate their gaming experience which is recorded on the PlayDate’s profile.”
Internet comedians have already created false profiles such as Gabe Newell, a bear and a grill. Get it? A gamer grill! Genius!
What are Gabe Newell’s turnoffs, according to his GameCrush profile? Developing console games, Salads, People who can’t handle a big beautiful man. I might also add finishing Half-Life Ep. 3 onto the list, amiright?
Unfortunately, the test period is over and the front page at GameCrush.com now shows a countdown to launch. Luckily, I was able to grab screenshots of some of the PlayDates before the site went to full countdown mode.
