GameDevHacker Convention Delayed Until Feb. 10

GameDevHack Delay

2015’s GameDevHacker convention is being postponed for two week to accommodate an incoming winter storm.

Back in December, we announced that 2015’s GameDevHacker convention would be coming to New York City on Jan. 28, 2015. We were also happy to report that The Escapist‘s own Alex Macris would be attending as a speaker. Sadly, however, it’s now been revealed that the convention will not be held this Wednesday as planned. In an announcement this morning, its organizers confirmed that it will be pushed back two weeks to a new date on Feb. 10th. Why you ask? Because mother nature can sometimes be a jerk.

We’re referring, of course, to the impending arrival of a massive winter storm system that the officials are predicting could dump as much as 20-30 inches of snow on New York City and much of the east coast, starting today and running through Wednesday. The snow is expected to be accompanied by winds as strong as 65MPH. In other words, it’s not the best time for a large group of people to be travelling to the city to discuss the business of making and selling video games.

This is especially unfortunate because, according to the event’s co-fonder Eric Yohay, this year’s convention had been expecting “a great turnout” thanks to its “incredible lineup of speakers.” We can confirm that, as of right now, Alex Macris still plans to attend the convention at its new date next month. Hopefully, the other speakers and the show’s attendees will be able to do the same.
