The online counterpart of retail conglomerate GameStop/EB Games now offers digital distribution for more than 1,000 games.
The websites of major gaming retail chain GameStop and recently absorbed partner EB Games now offer downloadable PC games via a new “Download Now” service. While the majority of the 1,025 titles available through the service appear to be casual, low-budget, or older releases, several recent high-profile, full-length games, including Civilization IV, Tomb Raider: Legend, and Hitman: Blood Money are also listed.
Game prices typically range from $4.95 to $49.99, and appear to be consistent with the chain’s prices for new retail versions of the same titles. Many of the less expensive games offered are also downloadable in free, time-limited evaluation versions.
GameStop and EB Games officially merged operations earlier this year. Although their online products and services are now essentially identical, they continue to maintain websites under both company names.
