The second downloadable mission pack for Saints Row: The Third has been released, and it’s out of this world.
(Why yes, I do feel terrible about that lede. Thanks for asking!)
This morning saw both the official announcement and debut of “Gangstas In Space,” a new DLC mission pack for Saints Row: The Third that transports your character from the concrete jungle to the airless void of deep space. Sorta.
Here’s the official explanation:
Hotshot director Andy Zhen has cast you as the star of his blockbuster opus, Gangstas in Space, a noble gangsta that must defend the planet against scantily-clad aliens equipped with laser beams, spaceships, and spaceships with laser beams. Along the way, you’ll mentor up-and-coming actress Jenny Jaros who plays alien Princess Kwilanna, and help her navigate the perilous waters of Hollywood stardom. Because their ain’t no career guidance like a gangsta’s career guidance.
It’s very meta, you see. Plus, you get ray guns!
Also of interest to you Saints Row fans is that clip embedded at top-right. That’s the official trailer for the add-on, and as you can see it handily lives up to the hilariously over-the-top juvenilia of the original game. Propers to developer Volition Inc. for that.
As for how and where you can snag this DLC, the official announcement also covers that:
Gangstas in Space is releasing this week across all of the various systems, and you can see a breakdown for each below. Please remember that these times are constant for every DLC pack that we release, so take note of the times for your specific console / region.
– Xbox 360: Feb 21st ~4AM CST
– Steam / OnLive: Feb 21st ~Noon CST
– PSN North American: Feb 21st ~8PM CST
– PSN Europe/Asia: February 22nd ~8AM CSTGangstas in Space is free for purchasers of the Saints Row season pass, and will be available for the suggested price of 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live, and $6.99 on PlayStation Network, Steam, and OnLive.
With this release (and the earlier Genkibowl VII DLC), there remains one more mission pack to be seen. If I had to guess, I’d say we’ll see it toward the end of March.
Presumably it too will allow players to murder innocent bystanders with floppy psychosexual representations of their unchecked masculine aggression.
