Gas Powered Games has been bought out by the World of Tanks guys.
If you’ve been following the Wildman carnage, then you know that Gas Powered Games’ disastrous Kickstarter recently came to its inevitable conclusion. Now, in the eleventh hour, a buyer has stepped forward to take Gas Powered over. Wargaming, a studio best known for its free to play MMO titles like World of Tanks, is the proud owner of Chris Taylor’s old outfit.
“Gas Powered Games’ heritage and development pedigree shows us just how valuable an addition Chris and his company will make to the Wargaming family,” says Wargaming’s Victor Kislyi, adding “Gas Powered Games has a long track record of providing incredibly engaging AAA gaming experiences and we can’t wait to start working with them.” Taylor is just as enthusiastic about the acquisition, which will see him and his remaining team become part of the Wargaming family.
Wildman, the Kickstarter that brought down Gas Powered, ended up being cancelled after reaching only $504,120 of its $1.1 million goal. When the cancellation was announced, Taylor said at the time that his goal was to focus on ways of saving the company, but that he couldn’t share any specifics. Some of those specifics, it would now seem, concerned the Wargamer buyout.
“I’m sure our experience and expertise will help us contribute even more to Wargaming’s global success,” says Taylor, who must be feeling relieved now that the buyout has concluded.
