A retail collector’s edition of the sublime Gemini Rue is coming in February.
If you like point-and-click adventures and believe that the only proper way to buy a videogame is on a disc, then I’ve got great news: the outstanding Gemini Rue is coming to retail next month in a new collector’s edition that will include some pretty sweet bonus content.
A disc-based limited edition of the original Wadjet Eye release was available until February 27, 2011, but after that it was gone, baby, gone. But now it’s back! Or it will be on February 10, anyway, thanks to Merge Games, which is gearing up to release an updated CE featuring two bonus games from developer Joshua Nuernberger, a Gemini Rue poster and the soundtrack, which is excellent in its own right. It’s not exactly a cornucopia of brand-new awesomeness but if you missed it the first time around, this is a fantastic pickup.
There’s only one downside: if you live in North America, you’re going to have to import it. The Gemini Rue CE is being released in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Greece and South Africa, but not in the U.S. or Canada. I don’t know why, but feel free to drop a line to mergegames.com and ask if you’re curious. [Maybe suggest that a retail release for North American gamers wouldn’t be such a bad idea while you’re at it.]
If you’re curious about this melancholy, sci-fi noir tale of a hitman-turned-cop and his quest to rescue his brother from a secret re-education facility but can’t be bothered with international shipping, you could always just pick it up from Steam, where it’s available for the eminently reasonable price of $9.99. No poster or soundtrack [and it really is a fantastic soundtrack], but still a hell of a game.
