Some things just go together. Like swearing and Nic Cage in full-on Nic Cage mode. Netflix has somehow brought the two together in the perfect way: a new show about the history of swear words. Nicolas Cage’s History of Swear Words will be hosted by the actor and take a deep dive into all those words you can’t say on broadcast TV.
In the trailer, Nicolas Cage, one of the most underrated iconic actors, is introducing one of the many swear words he’ll be covering during the show’s run. On top of “P*ssy” (as Netflix PR chooses to typeset it), the series will tackle the origins, pop culture usage, science, and cultural impact of F**k, Sh*t, B*tch, D**k, and Damn. (Yes, Netflix is fine with “Damn.”) Cage will do so through interviews with experts and entertainers and probably riff a bit himself because that’s why we’re all really going to tune in.
Guest stars include a whose who of people who are good at swearing: Joel Kim Booster, DeRay Davis, Open Mike Eagle, Nikki Glaser, Patti Harrison, London Hughes, Jim Jefferies, Zainab Johnson, Nick Offerman, Sarah Silverman, Baron Vaughn, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.
The series will run for six episodes covering the six aforementioned swear words, and each episode is about 20 minutes. It wouldn’t be surprising if we see more from it after that. There are plenty of swear words, and the world can always use more Nic Cage acting crazy. This is also the formula Netflix has taken with its other successful pop culture series like The Toys That Made Us and High Score.
The show will debut on Jan. 5, a few days before Cobra Kai, giving us a double dose of pop culture madness. Below, please find some images of Nic Cage looking serious.
