PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio’s God of War Ragnarok sequel project has been delayed to 2022, and it will come to PlayStation 4 (PS4) in addition to PlayStation 5 (PS5). PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst revealed these details in a Q&A with the PlayStation.Blog, where he discussed the decision when asked about how developers have adapted to the challenges throughout the last year.
“And for God of War, the project started a little later,” he said. “So we’ve made the decision to push that game out to next year, to ensure that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play.”
Aside from announcing the delay, the Q&A session also confirmed that the God of War Ragnarok project, as well as Gran Turismo 7, will release for players on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 platforms. This news is the first major update we’ve received about the God of War sequel since it was announced last year during a special PlayStation 5 event with a 2021 release window.
Santa Monica Studio also published its own statement regarding the delay: “We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window to 2022.”
