Batwoman writers Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash are developing a Gotham Knights TV show for The CW, according to Variety. However, despite its name, the show will not connect at all to the Gotham Knights video game in development at WB Games Montreal. Instead, theĀ Gotham Knights TV show will focus on the “rebellious adopted son” of Bruce Wayne, who will team up with the children of a bunch of supervillains when they are all framed for the murder of Bruce Wayne (Batman). It sounds like a cheesy mash-up of Batman and Runaways.
The “rebellious adopted son” of Bruce Wayne is not named, and since DC likes to play fast and loose with its canon, it could be a few different Robin characters. Jason Todd (typically seen as anti-hero Red Hood) seems like the most obvious choice, if it’s going to be someone who teams up with a bunch of supervillain kids. Dick Grayson (Nightwing) is another option, with Tim Drake (Red Robin) being less likely but possible. In any case, this series will depict Gotham City at its worst and most dangerous, since Batman is gone, but Batman’s son and those wacky supervillain children will form the Gotham Knights to restore peace and also clear their own names.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden of Berlanti Productions are executive producing the Gotham Knights TV show for Warner Bros. Television, so tonally it should fall into that spectrum of other DC Comics CW series like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and especially Batwoman.
