At Granblue Fantasy Fes 2020, developer and publisher Cygames announced that action RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink will launch in 2022 on PlayStation 5 in addition to PlayStation 4.
Cygames has provided information about where the studio is at in the current development cycle. Per Gematsu, the game has passed pre-production, with a vertical slice complete, so a small portion of the core gameplay experience can be played at a near-finished quality. Granblue Fantasy: Relink is now currently in alpha, where some features and resources remain unfinished or are using temporary assets. However, in general, the game is playable in its entirety. The studio also stated that it is currently nearing the final stages of development and “going all in on asset creation!”
The game’s previous protagonist, Blue, was scrapped in favor of Gran and Djeetra from the franchise’s mobile game. This decision was made due to the rising popularity of both characters as they developed established personalities in the canon. Blue’s outfit has been repurposed for both Gran and Djeeta, who will change into it sometime during the story.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink was confirmed for localization in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish back in 2018. Hopefully, the game’s localized release will hit 2022 as well.
