More evidence all but confirming the existence of a Grand Theft Auto (GTA) trilogy remaster for PC and consoles has emerged following a recent update to the Rockstar Games Launcher. Members of the GTA Forums took notice and shared suspicious information yesterday after digging deeper into the update itself. This includes several interesting mentions, including “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – Unreal,” “Grand Theft Auto III – Unreal,” and “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – Unreal,” which would agree with reports that the remasters are being made with Unreal Engine. This, in conjunction with the fact that the South Korean ratings board recently rated a “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition,” heavily implies that an announcement is coming sooner rather than later.

Word that Rockstar could be planning a Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster originated from an August report that said the studio is planning to release the GTA bundle for PC, Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile devices later this year. (Kotaku now reports a November release is likely.) The initial report suggested that the bundle would include Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, developed by Rockstar Dundee using the Unreal Engine. The intent is reportedly to update the user interfaces without sacrificing the look and feel of the originals.
Rockstar Games has yet to formally announce the trilogy exists, but playing coy is nothing new for it. Just about everything we’ve heard regarding Grand Theft Auto VI has come from unofficial sources, including a few alleged leaks that claim it will take place in a modern version of Vice City.
