Ukrainian developer GSC Game World has announced that it will be developing “several subsequent new products” for its recently released FPS, S.T.A.L.K.E.R..
After seven years in development, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was released in March to great fanfare. Despite occasionally quirky gameplay, the game received considerable critical acclaim, and even more importantly, became a hit with gamers. Its detailed “alternate reality” setting, freeform play over large and varied levels, and intense, challenging FPS action have made S.T.A.L.K.E.R. a standout title in the FPS market.
Commenting on the game’s success, Oleg Yavorsky of GSC Game World said, “Hopefully, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will contribute to making it easier for Eastern European studios to gain access to Western markets,” adding that GSC’s relationship with publisher THQ was “a new and positive experience.” In its fourth quarter report, THQ said that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was a strong contributor to its record sales and profit levels.
While no details have been given, GSC Game World CEO Sergiy Grygorovych said, “We are very happy of the players’ positive reaction to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. all over the world. This fills us with confidence the team is on the right track and adds us strength to go for next exciting accomplishments. It will be very soon that we present our new interesting ideas and solutions.”
