A lot of people really enjoyed the 2018 Halloween “requel.” Director David Gordon Green peeled away all the aspects of the franchise that didn’t work and just focused on the ones that did, and it was a strategy that generated $255 million at the box office. Then Halloween Kills happened, and a lot of the goodwill went out the window. If you managed to enjoy that movie though, or if you’re just stubborn about finishing what you start, the Halloween Ends trailer has arrived. It is the end of the trilogy, all of which has been directed by Green.
Although, the Halloween Ends trailer reveals very little. Michael Myers shows up to a home, where a gun-toting Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is ready for him. They end up in a struggle, and Laurie stabs Michael in the hand. And that’s the end of the trailer. Frankly, it’s a pretty good tease in the sense that it’s terrible when trailers spoil an entire movie in advance. But it’s also kind of weird to see invincible killing machine Michael Myers struggling to overpower a thin lady in her 60s.
Nonetheless, Halloween Ends takes place four years after Halloween Kills, and Laurie is living with her granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak), while writing her memoir. Laurie thinks she’s finally free of Michael, but after a young man is accused of murdering the boy he was babysitting, Laurie pieces together that, yeah, Michael Myers is probably still around and she needs to do something about it. Then the shooting and stabbing happens, probably.
Halloween Ends comes to theaters on October 14.
