Halo Infinite multiplayer just got an overview trailer, giving excited players a deep dive into how 343 Industries is approaching gameplay and unlocks this time around. The studio published the 12-minute video today to communicate how this free-to-play experience will feel similar and different when compared to past iterations. Most notably, Halo Infinite multiplayer is adopting the battle pass system found in other games like Call of Duty: Warzone or Fortnite, but there’s a twist.
In Halo Infinite, 343 says players who purchase the battle pass will never see it expire, meaning you’ll be able to continue progressing through older passes even as new ones are released. You can also purchase older passes as new seasons continue to release. Additionally, many of the unlocks, which are entirely cosmetic, can only be acquired by playing the game itself.
“All of these rewards are single-source, so you’re never going to be confused about where things come from,” said Ryan Paradis, live design director. “If you can unlock something in the battle pass, we’re not going to let any other players circumvent that by purchasing it out of the storefront.”
Halo Infinite multiplayer will take players back to sandbox gameplay, as illustrated in the overview video. Equipment is back, too, with Halo 2-style weapon pods occasionally dropping in to resupply the battlefield. There will also be lots of player and vehicle customization options, and a new vehicle, the Razorback, will offer similar ground support found with the Warthog but also allows for more carry space. Halo Infinite multiplayer will also support cross-play and cross-progression.

Today’s overview trailer follows yesterday’s Xbox & Bethesda E3 2021 Showcase, where Halo Infinite made its first substantial appearance in a while. A few minutes of campaign footage showed Master Chief gliding through wreckage in space, but the real reveal came in our first look at the free-to-play multiplayer component.
Halo Infinite with its free-to-play multiplayer releases on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S holiday of this year and will be available on Game Pass at launch.
