Halo Infinite will officially launch on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and Xbox Game Pass with a release date of December 8, 2021, as announced during the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation. The 343 Industries-developed flagship Microsoft title received its release date along with a Halo Infinite multiplayer trailer today, finally giving fans a date to cling on to after delays pushed the game’s release out for more than one year. While many expected to see Halo Infinite appear during Microsoft’s Gamescom conference yesterday, the game’s release date managed to leak on the Microsoft Store earlier today.
The lead-up to Halo Infinite’s release date has been tumultuous, to say the least. The game lost its creative director, Tim Longo, in 2019, with the departure of lead producer Mary Olson following shortly after. Then when Halo Infinite’s 2020 demo proved controversial among fans, Microsoft and 343 decided to delay the project’s launch from 2020 to 2021. Later that same year, director Chris Lee revealed that he would be stepping down from Halo Infinite.
When Halo Infinite launches on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S, it will do so without the series’s famed campaign co-op and Forge modes. The exclusion was recently announced by 343 in a developer update post, where the studio announced that fans will have to wait for the additions to come as part of updates coming in the future. This isn’t the only shakeup for the franchise, however, as 343 has said that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer component will be free to play this time around.
