In a community blog post, 343 Industries provided some updates regarding the Halo franchise. Among other things, the studio reconfirmed that it is not currently planning any further updates for Halo Wars 2, and there is no Halo Wars 3 in development. This year marks the four-year anniversary of Halo Wars 2‘s launch, so 343 wanted to be as transparent as possible about the title’s future.
While 343 isn’t going to update the game — which includes content updates, balance patches, or bringing the title to other platforms — the studio will of course continue to monitor the game to ensure it is running smoothly for players.
“Given the broader impact initiatives the studio is already committed to, we unfortunately can’t devote the time and attention we’d need to deliver additional updates and content for the Halo Wars franchise,” said Halo community manager John Junyszek.
However, Junyszek optimistically emphasized that there is no further Halo Wars 2 content or a Halo Wars 3 planned currently, adding “who knows what the future may bring(?)” But at this time, 343 Industries is focusing a majority of its efforts on Halo Infinite‘s launch, scheduled to release in fall 2021.
Halo Wars 2 released on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC on Feb. 21, 2017. Interestingly, it is not available on Steam, despite Microsoft’s push for more of its titles on the platform. Unfortunately, it is now confirmed that there are no plans to bring it there.
