Hell Is Us sounds like it may just be the first game announced in the wake of Elden Ring to be directly following in its footsteps. This new game from Necromunda: Underhive Wars developer Rogue Factor is billed as a third-person action adventure that does away with explicit waypoint and quest log systems.
Instead, players are encouraged to explore the semi-open world and uncover information on their own. According to Creative Director and Deus Ex alumnus Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, “Our goal with Hell Is Us is to bring back true adventure and exploration… (W)e want players to feel the thrill of adventure, guided by their feelings and instincts.”
The story of Hell Is Us takes players to an isolated nation gripped by civil war. It’s not as simple as it sounds, however, as the country has also recently come under attack from supernatural creatures that look like ancient monuments. The description also makes it sound like something of a personal narrative, as the protagonist seeks to learn more about his past.
There are few details currently available to indicate what the combat will look like, but the CGI-based teaser trailer below suggests both melee weapons and firearms.
Hell Is Us has actually been in development for several years already and is being made with Unreal Engine 5. The game is currently scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S sometime in 2023.
