Henry Cavill Expected to Return as Superman in Future DC Films

Henry Cavill Superman returns DC Films Justice League The Flash

Almost two years after word emerged that Henry Cavill was ending his tenure as Superman, the actor is now expected to reprise the role in future DC films, though not as the lead character. Deadline reveals that Cavill and Warner Bros. have returned to the table for discussions about how he might return for “cameo” appearances in films headlined by other DC heroes.

ComicBook.com goes further in its report, saying that the parties have already signed a deal, with Cavill to appear in multiple future films. According to the outlet, Superman will be used similarly to Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in both cameos and supporting roles.

Already planned movies that could provide space for such an appearance are Shazam! 2, Black AdamAquaman 2, or The Flash, though the studio is yet to determine where Cavill might appear.

Both sources explicitly head off the possibility of a Man of Steel sequel, writing that Warner Bros has not yet decided on the future of Superman as a standalone hero.

This Henry Cavill news is the second to excite fans of the DCEU in a week, as Zack Snyder announced that the much-discussed “Snyder Cut” of 2017’s Justice League will debut on HBO Max next year.
