Open-world RPG Hogwarts Legacy has been delayed to 2022. The Harry Potter spinoff game’s official Twitter account shared the news that Portkey Games and Avalanche Software won’t make their originally intended 2021 launch window. The provided statement explains the delay will help ensure that the game receives the time it needs to be completed:
We would like to thank fans from around the world on the tremendous reaction to the announcement of Hogwarts Legacy from our Portkey Games label. Creating the best possible experience for all of the Wizarding World and gaming fans is paramount to us so we are giving the game the time it needs. Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022.
Hogwarts Legacy was revealed as a Portkey and Avalanche project in September of last year. Its reveal trailer promised more than just the typical Harry Potter magic and wonder fans are used to, as the game will see players embarking on their own journey set earlier in the franchise’s timeline.
Despite the delay, Hogwarts Legacy is still planned to launch for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S, so stay tuned for further updates. The game did garner some controversy around the time of its announcement though due to discriminatory comments made by series creator J.K. Rowling.
