Hogwarts Legacy is coming to PC and consoles holiday 2022, but only PlayStation 5 (PS5) players will be able to enjoy the added immersion that comes with using DualSense features. WB Games Avalanche community manager Chandler Wood explained in a PlayStation.Blog post that DualSense interactivity allowed the team to make the wireless controller feel like an extension of an in-game wand. This is thanks to the controller’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, which were used to give each spell more punch.
“We’ve specifically isolated these effects to the right side of the controller to let the DualSense become an extension of the wand you hold in the game,” Wood says. “And when you deflect a spell with Protego, you’ll feel the sizzling of the magic being reflected and absorbed by the Shield Charm.”
These PS5 DualSense features are being used to heighten Hogwarts Legacy with more than just spellcasting. Flying on a broom or on the back of a hippogriff will feel equally impactful, as will crushing potion ingredients and certain other audio cues. The DualSense’s touchpad lights will also change depending on what is going on in the game at any given moment, and when not in combat, you can expect to see Hogwarts house colors.
PS5 players of Hogwarts Legacy can furthermore enjoy the console’s 3D AudioTech when wearing headphones. A few sounds can be heard through the controller itself as well.
It’s not quite the same as going hands-on yourself, but you can see some of the aforementioned features in the Hogwarts Legacy “Next Gen Immersion” video below.
Hogwarts Legacy will support unique features when it comes to PS5, but you’ll also be able to check it out on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S this holiday.
