A recent Tweet from Devolver Digital seems to point to a Vita port of Duke Nukem 3D.
Devolver Digital posted a somewhat ambiguous Tweet today hinting that a port of Duke Nukem 3D could be coming to Vita. The Tweet in question contained an image of a Vita apparently running a compatible version of Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition. Accompanying the picture was a brief message. “Here’s Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition run on a PlayStation Vita. That is all.” Also included in the Tweet was the Twitter handle for Abstraction Games (@AbstractionGame).
While the entire Tweet points fairly solidly toward a port, the specific nod to Abstraction Games is a particularly telling bit of evidence. Hotline Miami, Devolver Digital’s and Dennaton Games’ hit action title, was ported to the PS3 and Vita by Abstraction. Keeping that past experience in mind, it’s not a stretch to assume that Abstraction is bringing Duke Nukem 3D to Sony’s handheld. Granted, there’s been no official confirmation from any of the involved parties, but we’re willing to go out on a limb and call this a pretty sure sign of future plans.
That being the case, we have to say we’re excited by the prospect. While Duke Nukem’s most recent contribution to gaming was arguably less than successful, Duke Nukem 3D is still widely regarded as a classic entry in the FPS genre. A version for the Vita might not be the system seller the portable needs, but it’d still be a nice addition to its expanding library and a treat for fans of original.
Note: Originally this article named Devolver Digital as the developer of Hotline Miami. It is in fact the publisher. We apologize for any confusion.
