Inkblot Heralds the Approach of Dead Space 2

The inkblot test has long been used to reveal one’s inner demons. So what do you see?

Perhaps you see a large scarab beetle. Maybe you see a thunder god emerging from the clouds. Or maybe, if you’re at all familiar with Dead Space, you see Isaac Clarke’s distinctive head gear amidst the lighter-colored Unitology symbols etched around the edges. (Which are a bit hard to see on this scan, admittedly.)

The ink blot arrived this morning with notes from Dr. Samara Yasmin about a recent session with Patient 1544C, who has shown “scant improvement from previous assessment.” 1544C’s symptoms include delusions, paranoia, and obsessive compulsive behavior. The patient also seems to keep repeating certain phrases over and over, such as “Twinkle, twinkle little star” and “The nightmare is over but will not end.” You can read Dr. Yasmin’s full summary at the end of this post.

I’d like to say that I’m sorry to hear that Isaac – oops, I mean 1544C – isn’t on the road to recovery, but I’m actually quite thrilled. I enjoyed the hell out of Dead Space and am very much looking forward to seeing what the sequel has to offer. Dead Space came largely out of nowhere to deliver a genuinely creepy horror experience, and while replicating that could be tricky, I’ve decided to be cautiously optimistic.
