After a rocky start, Cyberpunk 2077 is better than ever, completely unlike Twitter. But you still might be wondering whether the social media site’s current owner, Elon Musk, is in Cyberpunk 2077. Here’s the answer.
Is Elon Musk in Cyberpunk 2077 & Where Is He?
A character a lot of people (myself included) thought was Elon Musk appeared in Cyberpunk 2077. If you choose the Corpo origin, your character, V, is talking to the screen when a background character enters from the right, gawps at the camera/protagonist and then heads off into a door on the left.
However, one of Cyberpunk 2077’s developers, Patrick Mills, has stated, via Twitter, “…that wasn’t Elon musk, it looks nothing like him.” Furthermore, Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.0 replaces this character with a different and altogether more stylish individual. So, unless he’s hidden somewhere in the Phantom Liberty DLC, Elon Musk is not in the game and, according to Mills, never has been.
You can watch a clip of Musk’s alleged cameo in Cyberpunk 2077 posted on YouTube by user Kazuliski. Does that look like Elon Musk to you? We can sort of see the resemblance but are we only seeing it because someone told us he were there? Are we just seeing what we want to see? Whatever the case, here’s who’ll you now see when you start the game with the Corpo origin.

In addition to Twitter/X, Musk also owns Neuralink which is developing brain-computer interfaces, so it make sense that, in universe, he’d have something to do with this dystopian cyberpunk future. Though we don’t want to think about the mountain of monkeys he may have got through. And his official autobiography states that Musk did try to get a cameo in the game, in an unusual and slightly disturbing manner.
According to the book his then-wife Grimes was recording lines for Lizzy Wizzy, an in-game pop star when Musk allegedly turned up with a 200 year old gun. And, while he apparently didn’t threaten CD Projekt Red’s staff, the studio guys were apparently ‘sweating’. “‘I told them that I was armed but not dangerous.’ They relented”, the book says.
Does that mean that they actually put him in the game? And did the incident actually happen? Mills states he wasn’t there so he doesn’t know. But if were were games developers and someone turned up with a gun, flintlock pistol or not, we’d say pretty much anything to get him to leave.
Unless he’s hidden somewhere in the Phantom Liberty DLC, the answer to is Elon Musk in Cyberpunk 2077 is no.
