Jurassic World: Dominion Gets Pushed to 2022

Jurassic World: Dominion release delay 2022

There are no more 2020 movies to delay, so the studios are starting to push back their 2021 films. Jurassic World: Dominion is the latest to move, jumping almost a year forward to June 10, 2022.

Director Colin Trevorrow revealed the new release date in a tweet alongside the first poster for the film, which shows the iconic logo made inside an amber circle. The obvious callback to the original film, which featured a mosquito trapped in amber, makes sense given Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill are all returning for this sixth outing in the franchise.

The delay comes as Hollywood is once again shuffling around its release dates as returns on major films in the months of November and December seem more and more unlikely as COVID-19 continues to tear across the U.S., keeping theaters shuttered and movie watchers out of the ones that are open. Summer 2021, when Jurassic World: Dominion was originally scheduled to release, was getting pretty crowded as 2020 films like No Time to Die were delayed into the time frame.

The film’s production was shut down in March along with nearly the rest of production around the world but was one of the first to return to production with stringent safety measures that cost upward of $5 million to implement. Filming is almost done but hasn’t been completed yet, and the delay in production could be a cause for this delay as well.
