An upcoming movie based on the comic book Kick-Ass looks like it will kick as much ass as Kick-Ass. Warning, the trailer contains extreme violence and language.
Kick-Ass, the comic series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita, Jr., is coming to the big screen in April 2010. The accompanying trailer shows off Hit-Girl, who actually isn’t the main character of the comic, but is important nonetheless.
Hit-Girl has been trained from birth to fight crime with her father, Big Daddy, in the most violent ways possible. She’s got no qualms about slicing off limbs or shooting people in the head. The actual main character of Kick-Ass is a normal New York City high school student that decides to dress up as a vigilante and fight crime, seen asking Hit-Girl “Who are you?” in the trailer. The problem is, he realizes that fighting crime isn’t as easy as it seems when he gets his ass kicked by a gang of street toughs.
Later on, he succeeds in some crime stoppage, and gains popularity on the internet. Even later, he encounters Hit-Girl and Big Daddy, two vigilantes that are much better trained. I’m not quite sure how the story in the movie version of Kick-Ass will go, but if it’s anything like the comic, there will be a crapload of violence. Then again, I guess the trailer already proves that.
Kick-Ass may not be on the level of Watchmen, but it’s a pretty decent read. The basic storyline should make for an enjoyable movie, if the foul-mouthed child that violently murders mobsters doesn’t do it for you by herself.
