Konami has stepped in to put a halt to recent rumors stating that a return to Silent Hill is on the horizon. Numerous rumors have surfaced stating that a Silent Hill reboot was in the works, with the most recent report detailing efforts made by Sony to bring Silent Hills back with the backing of P.T. creator Hideo Kojima himself.
Rely on Horror reached out to Konami for comment and received a disappointing answer from one of the company’s US PR representatives: “We’re aware of all the rumors and reports but can confirm that they are not true. I know it’s not the answer your fans may want to hear.” The email also stated, “It’s not to say we are completely closing the door on the franchise, just not in the way it is being reported.”
The site says it asked for further clarification regarding Sony’s involvement but received no reply after “a week of follow-ups” despite the original email being answered within an hour.
So, while a rebirth for Silent Hills or the series in general may not come in the way many have heard about, Konami’s reluctance to dive into specifics is intriguing enough on its own.
Rumors of Kojima’s involvement only escalated after the game director revealed that he currently working on a horror project.
For now, Silent Hill fans can rest assured, as a movie is confirmed to be in the works, so not all is lost for the series just yet.
