Lego Star Wars Holiday Special Trailer Has Two Hans Shooting First

Lego Star Wars Holiday Special Trailer Disney Plus Disney+

There was a time when bringing up Christmas and Star Wars at the same time was simply a way to begin a punchline that ended with “… and they called it Life Day,” but Disney+’s Lego Star Wars Holiday Special is looking to finally change that by bringing us a brand new Star Wars holiday special that isn’t terrible. The special received its first trailer today, and much like the Lego Star Wars games, it’s full of fantastic jokes poking fun at the films and lots of Lego versions of classic characters.

The show, which is a riff on/sequel to the infamous 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, will feature Rey traveling back in time after discovering a time crystal. In doing so she’ll meet up with plenty of classic Star Wars characters from across the movies and even, it appears, The Mandalorian. We get a look at Darth Vader, Luke, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose, every droid ever, and a comical Emperor Palpatine. Clearly, the show is meant to be a bit of fun in line with other Lego adaptations and not some sort of conical tentpole that will redefine the entire Star Wars cinematic universe.

There is some classic Star Wars cast returning on this one with Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) all confirmed for the show. Oddly, however, Disney has not announced any casting confirmation for more recent cast members such as Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, and Oscar Isaac. The voices in the trailer sound primarily like soundalikes. Given Boyega’s recent commentary around his character, it’s difficult to believe he returned for this.

Lego Star Wars Holiday Special will debut on Disney+ on Nov. 17.
