Locke & Key may have taken years to finally make the jump from comic book to the small screen, but Netflix made it happen and it paid off. The series, which follows three siblings that move into a mysterious house after the death of their father, has been renewed for a season 2 by the streamer.

The announcement may mean we’ll be seeing more of the Locke family as they discover even more magical keys in their family’s home, but it can’t possibly be any time soon. The entire industry is basically shut down right now, meaning production on the series won’t start until after the COVID-19 pandemic ends, and even then probably after Netflix catches up on its plethora of other delayed projects (and fast-tracking as much Tiger King content as they can make).
The first season of Locke & Key was received well enough by critics and fans, who had fun with the series despite its sometimes losing its focus. Netflix doesn’t release ratings unless they want to, and the show never broke into the cultural zeitgeist like other Netflix series have. But it clearly did well enough to continue making.
There are no casting announcements, but presumably Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones), and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), along with their mother Nina (Darby Stanchfield), will all return for Locke & Key season 2. Netflix, as per usual, has not announced a release date yet.
