Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio) has announced a sequel to its 2019 game, Judgment, called Lost Judgment. This was during its Judgment Day presentation this morning, and the game will release worldwide on Sept. 24 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S.
The announcement trailer lays the groundwork for the story, where protagonist Takayuki Yagami and his partner Masaharu Kaito return to investigate the murder of a man named Hiro Mikoshiba. It also looks like the game will take place in Yokohama, the same setting as in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Additionally, the Yokohama Liumang, the Chinese gang featured in the aforementioned game, is also mentioned in the Lost Judgment trailer as well.
According to the official website, Lost Judgment will launch with the Standard Edition that includes the base game, as well as a SteelBook Edition that is exclusive to the Best Buy retailer in the U.S. The game’s existence leaked on the Japanese PlayStation Network Store yesterday and mentioned a Digital Deluxe Edition as well, but it is currently not mentioned on the site.
In an interview with IGN, Ryu Ga Gotoku additionally clarified that the combat in the mainline Yakuza games will remain RPG turn-based going forward like it was in Like a Dragon. However, Lost Judgment will retain the Yakuza series’s traditional real-time brawling gameplay so as to differentiate between the two properties.
Judgment was first released on PS4 back in 2019 and then recently launched on Google Stadia and Xbox Series X | S last month. However, there’s been no announcement of a Stadia or even a PC version as of now.
