It appears that both Mafia II and Mafia III are getting the definitive treatment. As spotted by Gematsu, both a Mafia II: Definitive Edition and Mafia III: Definitive Edition have been rated by the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee. Both titles are set to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
While the Mafia III listing is completely new, Mafia II: Definitive Edition was seen rated by the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea a few days ago. So, it appears that publisher 2K Games is looking to re-release both open-world action games soon.
Mafia II looks to offer the most improvements for console players as it originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. While no features have been confirmed for the game, as it still has yet to be officially announced, it’s expected to feature graphics and performance more akin to the PC release. 2K Czech’s third-person title was about war veteran Vito Scaletta as he attempts to pay back his father’s debt to the mob. It received praise upon release for its storytelling and memorable plot.
It will be interesting to see what the definitive edition of Mafia III will offer up as it was released in 2016 for all three platforms the new release will come out on. Developed by Hangar 13, the game took place in a New Orleans-inspired location and saw Vietnam War veteran Lincoln Clay attempt to build his own crime organization while obtaining revenge on the mob. Presumably, the definitive edition will include the game’s three DLC packs, although it’s unknown if any upgrades will be made to the core game. It received mixed reviews upon release with repetitive gameplay being cited while its story was praised for being willing to tackle taboo subjects such as racism and the Vietnam War.
