Mafia II Sets World Record for F-Bomb Usage

Mafia II is being recognized not for its compelling story, but for the amount of profanity used within it.

The fellows over at Achievement Hunter had a grievance with a world record found in the Guinness Book, so they admirably took matters into their own hands. When they noticed an inordinate number of uses of the f-bomb in Mafia II, they knew it just had to be a world record.

And it apparently was. The previous world record holder for uses of the f-bomb in a videogame was House of the Dead: Overkill, which used the term 189 times in three hours of dialogue. It was the first title to be awarded the prominent distinction, but it sure won’t be the last.

Mafia II was proven to have at least 200 uses of the expletive f**k, definted by Merriam-Webster as: “To engage in coitus with -sometimes used interjectionally with an object (as a personal or reflexive pronoun) to express anger, contempt, or disgust.” Guinness has provisionally recognized that Mafia II is the holder of the new record, but is still waiting to make the official announcement.

2K Games has submitted the game’s official script to Guinness, which says it plans to “count the number of f-bombs [itself] and update the record with a complete figure.” If Mafia II ends up with the prestigious award, it’ll appear in the next version of the Guinness Book of World Records: Gamer’s Edition. However, I seriously doubt it’ll last for long because the Lego Universe MMOG is on the horizon, and I hear those Lego people have filthy mouths.
